Putin: Cooperation with China at "unprecedented level"

In the week leading up to the G7 (Group of Seven) meeting, many were starting to call it the G6 +1, since Trump was doing everything in his power to alienate the other 6.

Trump, talking to reporters as he left the White House for this weekend's G-7 summit in Charlevoix, Quebec, asked, "Why are we having a meeting without Russian Federation being in the meeting?"

Russian Federation was suspended from group in 2014 because of its annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.

Following a formal welcoming ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing, Mr Putin first with China's premier Li Keqiang, telling him that Russia-China trade and economic ties have "gained a good tempo, and we are looking for new spheres of co-operation". Trump has said he was open to having a summit with Putin, who United States intelligence officials have said directed Russian meddling in the 2016 election to help Trump win. I think it would be good for Russian Federation.

The move came after Trump refused to endorse a G-7 statement.

Before the medal ceremony, Putin said the two heads of state had enjoyed "fruitful" talks.

Trump maintained the US relationship with the country's northern neighbor is "probably better, as good or better, than it's ever been".

The G7 group consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the US. "Also does the president think that in the near future cryptocurrency will replace completely the standard fiat money?" asked vlogger Artiom Khokholikov.

When he said, "It may not be politically correct, but we have a world to run", you have to wonder who he meant by "we".

At the summit in La Malbaie, in the Charlevoix region of Quebec, the G7 leaders formally agreed to set up a new rapid response mechanism.

Maria Repnikova, director of the Center for Global Information Studies at Georgia State University in the U.S., said China makes Russian Federation look "stronger and more relevant" on the global stage.

The last meeting between Trump and Putin was a brief exchange in Vietnam last November. The DPRK leader also reportedly ended his congratulatory message by anticipating even more success for President Putin and hoped that his country and that of the President's would get the chance to strengthen their strategic and traditional bilateral relations sometime in the near future.

But this apparently spontaneous suggestion - rejected out of hand by the other allies - did not make it to the summit table, where instead the leaders confronted Trump's assault on the world trade system.

"I would say that the G8 is a more meaningful group than the G7, absolutely", Trump said.

The U.S. president had also slammed America's Western trading partners, saying "all of these countries have been taking advantage of the United States on trade".

Mr Trump posted a series of messages on his favourite social media platform, accusing the European Union and Canada of imposing "massive trade tariffs and non-monetary Trade Barriers" against the US.

Trump plans to leave the summit four hours earlier than originally planned to fly to Singapore to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the White House said.
