Joe Jackson, father of Michael Jackson, dies at 89

The Jackson family patriarch reportedly died today, and his loved ones were by his side for their final goodbyes.

Still, Joe had a hard relationship with his children and had been accused of both emotional and physical abuse.

Representatives did not respond to requests for details.

"I have seen more sunsets than I have left to see".

Michael then explained just how afraid he was of the man by stating: 'Like there's been times when he'd come to see me, I'd get sick, I'd start to regurgitate'.

But he made his impact on music history when he put five of his sons into a group that soon became known as the Jackson 5.

Nine of the Jackson children have scored hits on the Billboard charts.

Father and son seemed to have reconciled for a time when Michael Jackson was on trial on child molestation charges.

In 1979, Michael broke from the group - as well as his father's management - and went to even greater acclaim with the landmark albums "Off the Wall" and "Thriller". She suffered low self-esteem as she watched how other fathers would show affection to their children.

Michael Jackson, who died on June 25, 2009, released a shocking tell-all in about his father in 1988, which was edited by former first lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis, according to The New York Daily News.

Joe agreed to it but, far from apologising, he said his methods made his kids successful and kept them out of jail. In a 2013 interview with Piers Morgan, Jackson said he didn't regret his parenting choices. "My mother [Katherine] nourished me with the most extravagant love imaginable, my father, my incredible father, drove me to be the best that I can", she said.

A year ago he said he was "truly sorry" for the way he treated them. But, he bounced back not long after and was seen partying in Vegas.

He had 11 kids, including 10 with his estranged wife Katherine, and one, with Cheryl Terrell. Jackson also had a daughter out of wedlock.

Their other children included Jermaine and La Toya Jackson, who both found success in their solo music careers. He moved with his father to Oakland, California, while his mother moved to East Chicago, Indiana.

Jackon's grandson and son of Tito Jackson, Taj Jackson, also shared a heartfelt tribute.

Despite his old age, Joe recovered proving how tough he was. "My wife and I would fight, because I invested in new instruments that cost so much", Jackson told Rolling Stone in 1971.

The patriarch later managed the early career of Janet.

By the time they were adults, most of the Jackson siblings had dismissed him as their manager; Michael and Joseph's relationship was famously fractured.
