Grandmother caught transporting children in dog kennels

A Memphis woman was arrested over the weekend after she allegedly placed her grandchildren in dog kennels during a vehicle trip across the state, police said.

She was reportedly charged with two counts of child endangerment.

Cheeks told police that she placed the children in the kennels, but she made sure to check on them periodically. According to an affidavit, Cheeks drove the kids from Whitehaven to Collierville, then to Downtown Memphis in 95 degree heat.

"Leimome Cheeks was interviewed and admitted to riding from Whitehaven to Collierville with the children in the kennel", a police affidavit says. The attention grew so rabid that the Memphis Police Department issued a statement on Facebook saying they had been contacted by many people since the video went viral on social media.

Leimome Cheeks was apprehended by police after the children were spotted on Elvis Presley Boulevard, in Memphis, yesterday afternoon, Fox 17 News reports.

The woman is being charged with two counts of child endangerment, according to Cleveland 19.

"It's very sad. Because it feels like hell right here now, it's very hot", said Nikita Blake who is Cheeks neighbor. She seems like a nice lady. "It's a huge mistake, get some help yeah but put her in jail, it's hard to say", Skylarr Blake said. I only met her like once maybe twice.

Strangely enough, there is little information available on the relations between Cheeks and the children, aged 7 and 8-years-old. She is set to appear in court on Monday, the station reported.
