Mars will make its closest approach to earth over the last 1.5 decades, which makes it particularly attractive and bright.

In the coming month the inhabitants of the Earth will be able to see Mars as a bright star in the sky.

"Since Mars and the sun appear on opposite sides of the sky, we say that Mars is in 'opposition, '" NASA said on its website.

This year the two planets won't get quite as cozy. The most recent Mars Close Approach, in 2003, was the closest the planet had been in almost 60,000 years, at 34.9 million miles away.

How large Mars appears in the sky to people on Earth depends on where the two neighboring planets are in their elliptical journey.

It seems that sometimes, the two planets are opposite to the side of the sun and they are far away, and sometimes Earth catches up with the neighbor and can pass it to close to it.

In 2016, the planets were at the opposite ends of their orbits, with 75.6 million kilometers between them, making Mars appear very small.

Mars won't be this close again until September 15, 2035.

According to Dean Regasa (Dean Regas), astronomer from the Cincinnati Observatory, Mars will be easily visible to the naked eye. They give a sense of what the sun and sky have looked like from Mars' surface - at the brightest time of the day - as the storm has worsened.

If you miss the Mars Close Approach next month, the next approach will be October 6, 2020.

The two planets will come closer to each other in their orbits around the sun due to a phenomenon, which is known as "perihelic opposition". It will look like a glowing orange beacon of light rising in the southeast after sunset.

Mars is just over half the diameter of Earth, 4,219 miles in comparison to Earth's 7,922 miles. The orbit of planet is not a ideal circle, it is actually follows an elliptical path.
