'We've brought Lindsey home': Missing McCleary girl Lindsey Baum's remains found

Scott did not say where the remains were found or in what condition.

Scott said he was notified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation lab a few weeks ago that the remains found by hunters past year were identified as Baum. For the last nine years we've not been able to say definitively what this was...

He said the Baum family is "understandably devastated". Sheriff Rick Scott said Baum's family were informed about the "devastating" development in the missing case.

Baum was last seen walking from her friend's house in McCleary - a small town 21 miles west of Olympcia - on June 26, 2009.

"Lindsey's Mother, Melissa Baum, as well as the relatives and close friends of Lindsey wish to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support since the onset of Lindsey's disappearance", the Facebook page posted Thursday. Scott described the perpetrator as a "monster" despite no suspects ever being named in the case.

Scott said in 2013 that more than 30 people had been examined as a "person of interest" for varying amounts of time and different reasons, but no one was considered a suspect. "That was not the outcome that the family wanted to hear".

Seattle police also searched a rural, wooded residence near Shelton once occupied by a fourth Emery brother who recently died.

"Seeing the age progression is a reminder of how much time we've missed and how much she's changed", Baum said. Thomas, 80, and Edwin Emery, 78, were still living in the two-story home in the 100 block of Northeast 59th Street when police arrested them.

Last year, Scott said he was particularly interested in that search because Shelton is about a half hour away from McCleary, where Baum vanished.

Our thoughts are with Lindsey's family at this hard time.

"I was glad to bring some element of closure to what had happened to her", Scott said Thursday. That search raised suspicions that the brothers may have been involved in Baum's disappearance.

Scott urged anyone with information to come forward.
