The Indianapolis Star reported the egg recall is one of the largest to occur since 2010, when 500 million eggs were recalled from an Iowa producer amid almost 2,000 reported illnesses linked to salmonella.
The Rose Acre Farms is a family managed business which produces almost 2.3 million of eggs from the three million hens in a day.
According to the FDA, the affected eggs are from plant number P-1065 with the Julian date range of 011 through date of 102 printed on either the side portion or the principal side of the carton or package.
In April, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced 23 people had been sickened by it; in recent weeks, that number jumped to 35, the CDC said.

The chief operating officer of the Rose Acre Farms in a statement to the Indianapolis Star has apologized for falling short of the FDA standards.
Some of those might potentially be contaminated with salmonella and sold in Publix stores.
A notice posted on the Food & Drug Administration website Friday said the eggs shipped from a North Carolina farm may be tainted with salmonella.
Twenty-two illnesses have been reported so far.
Salmonella causes serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
In February, Triple T Specialty Meats, based in Ackley, Iowa, recalled more than 20,000 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken salad products that may have been contaminated with salmonella.
