McCutchen Returns to Pittsburgh with San Francisco Giants

The Pirates hit a pair of home runs on Saturday in their 6-5 victory against the San Francisco Giants.

Still, manager Bruce Bochy sees an upward trajectory. Chad Kuhl pitched six innings for the Pirates, and struck out six. "They're looking for the ball up over the plate". They started off with a four-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies and are now two games into a series with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

With the bases loaded and Mercer at the plate, Watson wanted to attack his former teammate on the inside corner, but delivered a fastball too far inside that ultimately plated the winning run.

"I'm still a little upset with this one even though I got to go 6⅓", he said.

"Us as a staff, us five guys have to find a way to improve and really get that momentum going and give that rhythm to the game to where the offense is feeling like they're in the dugout a lot", Samardzija said.

"Bad. Simple. It was a bad one." said Nova, who gave up five runs and six hits in two innings.

Marte's 402-foot double almost ruined Holland's best start of the year, but the left-hander bounced back by striking out Josh Bell to end the fifth. The Giants won five of six games against the Pirates last season.

Andrew McCutchen played for the Pirates since his debut in 2009 until he was traded to the Giants in January. The Pirates regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI triple from Jordy Mercer, which was followed by a pinch-hit two run home run off the bat of Jose Osuna.

21-45 in their last 66 road games against a right-handed starter. The three-run blast was the fifth hit by the Giants this season after the club hit just seven all of previous year.

Gregory Polanco planted the ball just over the wall in right-center, his eighth homer, with one out in the third for a 3-3 tie.

Hanson scored the tying run in the eighth inning on Jackson's double, but slowed up rounding the third base bag with a tight left hamstring.

Crawford almost enjoyed a stunning reprisal of his grand slam that helped the Giants to victory in the 2014 National League Wildcard Game at PNC Park, but his flyball was caught a few feet shy of the wall.

"You're hoping it's not one of those games where you have buzzard's luck, but we did have some hard outs", Bochy said. The Giants, meanwhile, have given up 15 homers during their losing streak.

Suárez was lifted after the fourth and became the fifth straight Giants starter who failed to pitch into the sixth inning.
