ROYAL Challengers Bangalore defeated table-toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad by 14 runs in a must-win match to stay alive in the Indian Premier League here Thursday night.AB de Villiers and Moeen Ali smashed quickfire half-centuries to propel Royal Challengers Bangalore to an imposing 218 for six against the table-toppers.Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson (81 from 42 balls) nearly pulled a heist. We've seen matches being won when all hope was lost. Overall, he hit seven fours and five sixes while Manish Pandey kept him company with 62 not out off 38 balls in a stand of 135 for the third wicket.
In the evening, the Sunrisers bowlers were at the receiving end of an outrageous assault from the RCB batsmen.
Not a great start for the home side as Parthiv Patel and Virat Kohli are sent back to the dugout.
Is there anything AB de Villiers can't do?
Batting first, the RCB totaled 218 for 6.
Fielding at deep mid-wicket, the South African had a chance to send back a unsafe Alex Hales who was threatening to set base for Sunrisers Hyderabad as they looked to chase down RCB's mammoth target. Soft dismissal for the left hander. SRH were 152/2. Kane Williamson 76 (35) and Manish Pandey 21 (16) were at the crease.
It may not be about two men but that could be a solid approach for Saturday's match. But, Rashid Khan and AB de Villiers took two sensational catches which would feature among the best in the competition; Rashid's one-handed effort ended de Grandhomme's vigil, while de Villiers' one-handed leaping catch resulted in the dismissal of Alex Hales. Moeen Ali was handy with bat and ball in the last game, AB de Villiers is in sparkling form, Parthiv Patel has been belligerent in the Powerplay and Tim Southee has been brilliant with his yorkers at the death. In the end the bowler held his nerve to take the team to victory. Anything wide was cut, anything short pulled without mercy.More news: Offset "expected to be ok" after reported auto crash

The duo went hammer and tongs as an otherwise tidy Sunrisers bowling attack looked clueless in front of the onslaught. Southee came for the 17th over, managed to save runs, 6 came off it. Siraj came for the 18th over, Pandey smashed the first ball for six, the next went for a four, 14 runs came off the over.
Kohli followed his opening partner soon after adding 32 runs with de Villiers, as the India skipper's struggle with the spinners continued in this edition of the IPL. There were two absolute blinders (by AB de Villiers and Rashid Khan) but inexplicably one of the safest pair of hands in the field in world cricket, Virat Kohli, dropped two sitters. Kane Williamson has been exemplary with the bat, the only consistent batsman of the team.
Axed from the England squad for the Tests against Pakistan, all-rounder Moeen Ali says his IPL stint will make him a better one-day player and improve his game."I have really worked on my game and I feel going further in the future for RCB and for England, hopefully it will help me become a better one-day player". The 27-year old hit 7 fours and 5 sixes in his 42-ball outing.
With the win, Bangalore remain in the hunt for a playoff spot, sitting fifth on the table behind the Mumbai Indians on Net Run Rate.
Rashid Khan was Sunrisers' best bowler.
The match will take place at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
