Monday's finale marked the conclusion of the first season of "American Idol" to air on ABC, which revived the singing competition less than three years after it was first canceled by Fox.

Poppe, 20, is from Clarksville, Indiana.

What did YOU think??

While fans of Hutchinson and Poppe breathed a sigh of relief, fans of Barret took to Twitter to voice their displeasure at the show that axed their artist of choice.

Earlier in the evening, Hutchinson revealed he and Poppe have been dating.

Poppe said she's been away from her family since the show started, which has made her "sad", but that the fellow contestants have become like a new family for her.

Maddie Poppe will be releasing track Going Going Gone as her winner's single.

Throughout the show, Nick Jonas, Bebe Rexha and Gary Clark Jr. also performed.

The victor was announced at the end of a two-hour Monday night finale on ABC. The Mississippi native waited two years after winning the reality series to share his debut album You Got 'Em All on Friday. Can they both win the title? And even though he came in second place, he said, "I couldn't be more happy with the way things went down tonight". But most of all, I want to thank my family for their unconditional love, my best friends. I want it to be as personal for them as possible. They will champion the record. "Going into this, I didn't really know me apart from what I liked to sing".

"Who cares about American Idol now because Gabby should have won", one user wrote. "I am thrilled that Katy, Luke, Lionel, and Ryan will be back to once again embark on this Idol journey with us to discover the next crop of inspiring talent".

Maddie Poppe and Adam Rippon share a big laugh together as they posed with their trophies outside of the Good Morning America Times Square studio on Tuesday morning (May 22) in New York City.

On Monday night, Maddie Poppe was crowned this season's victor of the reality singing competition, which ABC revived in March with star judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
