Amazon Go Expands to Chicago and San Francisco

There were hints that Amazon Go locations were heading to San Francisco and Chicago, according to the news report.

When Amazon opened its cashier-less Amazon Go store in Seattle this January, the world stopped and stared. There's no word yet on when the new locations may open, but it has previously been reported that Amazon wants to open six new Go locations this year.

Amazon is looking for store managers to head Amazon Go stores in both cities, according to recent job listings the retailer posted on its website. Not only that there are no cashiers, Amazon Go stores don't even have checkout counters, thereby eliminating the need for shoppers to wait in line.

Amazon is also obtaining building permits in the two cities, though there hasn't been any confirmation regarding the store's opening dates or specific locations.

Amazon began piloting the check-out free retail concept with its employees in Seattle in December 2016, as CSNews Online previously reported. Customers are billed after leaving the store using credit cards on file.

Cameras and sensors track what the customers grab off the shelves and charge them after they leave. Once you're done shopping, you're on your way.
