Unnao, Kathua: BJP claims rumours being spread about party's 'inaction'

Kathua rape and murder case took another turn on Friday evening after two BJP ministers submitted their resignation.

Forest minister Chaudhary Lal Singh and industries and commerce minister Chander Prakash Ganga sent their resignations after reports emerged that PDP could break alliance with BJP. The two had reportedly attended an event organised by Hindu Ekta Manch, an outfit that protested against the intial arrests made in the case.

Earlier today, the BJP had defended the two leaders saying that they had been "misled". The opposition parties are putting pressure on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to sack the two ministers.

In the Unnao case, Lekhi said action is being taken against the BJP MLA who was accused in the case.

The minor girl, who belonged to the nomadic Bakerwal Muslim community, had disappeared from near her home in the forests next to Rasana village in Kathua, 90 km from here, on January 10. Her body was found in the same area a week later.

Amid global outrage over the rape and murder of a minor girl in Kathua district of Indian Occupied Kashmir, Chauhan has given a freakish theory, saying enemy agents are involved in stirring unrest in the contested valley. In the Unnao case in Uttar Pradesh, a 17-year-old girl has accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Senger of raping her in June last year.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday condemned Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua gangrape and murder case, which has prompted nationwide anger and outrage. Questioning why some cases were being given prominence while others were not, Lekhi said "politicisation" of atrocities against children and women should not happen.

Two Special Police Officers (SPOs) were also arrested, and later, five more people, including a former revenue official and the alleged conspirator, surrendered before the Special Investigation Team.
