The singer who has been hospitalised immediately following the shooting is reportedly out of danger.
The "Gaal Ni Kadni" singer was shot at late on Friday when he was heading home from Chandigarh's Elante Mall in his Toyota Fortuner SUV with a friend.
News agency IANS later reported that a white Hyundai Creta vehicle had followed the singer's Toyota SUV from Chandigarh.
Verma's song "Gaal Nahin Kadhnai" which was released past year have been viewed over 118 million times on YouTube.

The incident took place at around 12.30 am, according to the police official.
Verma and his friend were shot in Phase 8, Industrial Area, Mohali when the duo was returning home. Dhahan uploaded a status on his Facebook page with a picture of himself holding a pistol along with picture of Verma with a cross drawn on it.
Wanted gangster, Dilpreet Singh Dhahan, in his Facebook post on Saturday, claimed responsibility for the attack. A police source has said Verma's knee was injured in the firing. The gangster said in the post that he had "warned" the singer, saying that their "face to face" meeting had cost him. The post has been shared 41 times. The gangster also said that Verma was "lucky to be alive".
A First Information Report or FIR has been registered against unknown individuals.
Verma is likely to be provided police protection following the attack.
