Trump's campaign is pouring money into lawyers amid the special counsel's intensifying investigation into possible Kremlin collusion with the campaign and obstruction of justice, and entanglements with adult-film actress Stormy Daniels and her fight to tell her story.

The most donor spending - $350,000 - went to Jones Day, the firm that has represented the Trump campaign since the 2016 election and handled all litigation relating to it, Buzzfeed reported.

That was a big increase over the last quarter of 2017, when the three committees together raised $12.5 million.

A consulting company owned by Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale was paid $1.7 million for digital and advertising services, according to the finance records.

In all, Trump's campaign committee and two fundraising committees that jointly raise money with the Republican National Committee - Trump Victory and the Trump Make America Great Again Committee - together raised almost $20.2 million in the first quarter, filings show.

Johnny McEntee, Trump's former personal assistant who was forced out when he couldn't be get security clearance, was hired by the campaign in March.
