Philly DA Says Meek Mill Should Get a New Trial

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office said in court Monday that the Philly rapper's gun- and drug-related convictions from 2008 should be overturned, after the credibility of Mill's arresting officer was recently impugned.

If you recall, Meek was sentenced in November to two to four years in prison for violating his probation. As was expected, there was no such empathy from Brinkley today, as she reportedly simply scheduled another hearing for June and dismissed any pleas for Meek's release on bail.

The behind-the-scenes legal drama surrounding imprisoned rapper Meek Mill continues to build. Since then, he has been unsuccessful in closing this chapter for good, thanks in large part to Judge Genece E. Brinkley. In February, Meek's lawyers questioned the credibility of a police officer involved in the 2007. "We are thrilled that the District Attorney's office has consented to the PCRA relief which we requested on Meek's behalf", he wrote". DA also stated in open court that the prior DA was aware that Officer Graham was untrustworthy as far back as 2005, which was never disclosed to Meek's defense team.

A police spokesman said that the office had no comment on the arresting officer allegations.

Mill's incarceration has become a cause celebre, with celebrities offering their support and recent prison visits from New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin and Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, a Democrat.

Meek Mill's mum, grandmother and 6-year-old son, Papi, were in the rally beyond the courthouse, which erupted into cheers immediately after the statement of the district attorney. "I love my dad very much".

Brinkley has been the topic of tough criticism against Mill's lawyers.

The judge defended herself this month, saying the court has "has impartially and without prejudice presided over numerous proceedings in this matter since 2008".

Meek Mill wasn't present for the court hearing on Monday.
