Man charged in attempted robbery

Columbia police arrested two people in connection with an attempted armed robbery in the 1400 block of Bass Avenue Saturday night.

The incident occurred around 12:15 p.m. Monday at Kim's Gift Shop in the Copaco Shopping Plaza, 297 Cottage Grove Road, according to police.

The employee complied and said the suspect then ran out of the business in an unknown direction.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Sonia Edwards said the man had been identified on CCTV.

In both instances, the suspect wore a surgical-style mask and displayed a black handgun.
