Epic Games Apologizes for Fortnite Downtime with Free Loot

The past few months have seen Fortnite: Battle Royale transcend pas just being a video game and become a cultural phenomenon.

Epic's Fortnite Design Lead Eric Williamson was interviewed in the latest Official PlayStation Magazine (May 2018, issue 148) and teased that the current 100 player cap for Fortnite Battle Royale might be increased at some point. I mean, personally, I would love to try it.

Other games have also been experimenting with the different battle royale setups instead of the staple 100-player formula.

Perhaps this higher-than-100 player mode could be tested as a Limited Time diversion to gauge reception among players.

Fortnite is without a doubt one of the hottest online games out there right now, and it seems that its popularity only continues to grow. By the time the servers came back up, Epic had been experiencing Fortnite server issues for almost 24 hours, resulting in a lengthy maintenance period that made the game inaccessible for everyone.

The new Fortnite Week 9 challenges have been revealed earlier than expected, thanks to the Fortnite tracker app which reads hidden data found within the game's files.

Williamson also said that the development team had a discussion on how they could more closely integrate the PvP and PvE modes. One ambitious game called Mavericks: Proving Grounds has plans to take the player count much higher by allowing 1,000 players into each map.

"Those are really fun palate cleansers", Williamson said about the Limited Time Modes. They allow us to do things we couldn't do in the core game.

"We'll have a detailed postmortem of this week's issues, and more information about how we will improve services for you in the future".

Developers do say that the game won't immediately increase the player cap, but may slowly start off by introducing a game mode with more players.

Next week, we will be granting a pack of Battle Stars to our Battle Royale players and Seasonal Gold to the Save the World players.
