A woman believed to have intentionally driven her wife and children off a cliff in the USA state of California was legally drunk, the local sheriff's office said.
Jen Hart had a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit, said Olegario Marin, a public-information officer with the California Highway Patrol.
The finding from toxicology tests performed on the body of Jennifer Jean Hart marked the latest clue divulged by investigators seeking to unravel the fate of the woman, her wife and their six adopted children.
The parents and the other child remain missing.
California Highway Patrol officials said Thursday they had recovered personal items belonging to the family from the rain-swollen Eel River, confirming that the vehicle that fell into the river April 6 was that of the Thottapilly family.
A family of 14 have been forced to squeeze into a four-bedroom house after a single mum of six claims to have been evicted from her home, following a housing benefit cut to just "50p a week". The whereabouts of the remains of Devonte, Hannah and Sierra are unknown but authorities believe they are dead.
After the March 23 visit, investigators went back three days later.

"Nobody has been able to get ahold of her, talk to her or seen her since.or her wife, which is Jen", she told the dispatcher at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, March 26.
Days went by without a word from the family and they were officially reported missing on Sunday to the San Jose Police Department. Debris at the accident site and other material found along the riverbanks also was consistent with that vehicle, officials have said.
Paul Stephenson, chief executive at Cheltenham Borough Homes, said: "We continue to work closely with the family and their support workers to resolve this ongoing situation".
The unnamed biological mother was deemed unfit by the Department of Family and Protective Services in 2006 and the children lived with their paternal aunt for five months before being moved to foster care.
