Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls brings the vampire-hunting series back to iOS

Konami has kept the Castlevania franchise relatively dormant in recent years, but they're looking to change that with a newly-revealed game for iOS.

You can sign up on the game's official page to be notified when it launches in Japan; there's no solid release date as yet. Selected testers will be contacted by e-mail around mid-May.

The story is pretty simple: after the defeat of Count Dracula, it seemed like eternal peace had finally descended upon the world. Protagonist Genya Arikado soon receives a letter that declares "The Grimoire has run wild and Count Dracula will be resurrected", so he sets off straight for the sender.

Exhilarating battles where up to four players can cooperate. Strengthen your favorite character and take on the powerful enemies that block your path forward!

Considering the game features real-time global co-op it would be safe to assume the game will be making it's way to other regions at some point. Up to four players can actually play together, and there's even a four-player competitive mode. We're sure that gamers would have much preferred seeing a brand new, full-blown Castlevania title launch on consoles, but in the meantime we suppose this will have to do.

Like Metal Gear Survive, Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls looks like a departure from the series norms, but we'll have to wait and see if this game is more of a success. Well it is a new Castlevania game but it is a 4 person co-op side scroller.

A mysterious character who belongs to a top-secret Japanese government agency. Today, only a handful of people are known as their unique identity, as the only being with the ability of vs. Dracula. While he has unworldly good looks, he is unsociable and hard to approach.
