Even as India is yet to recover from the shock and shame of the rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua, another chilling murder of an unidentified minor girl has been reported from Surat in Gujarat.
In the Unnao case, the Yogi Adityanath government has come under fire for allegedly trying to shield the influential party MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar who was accused of raping a 17 year-old girl in June last year. Surat Police Commissioner Satish Sharma had yesterday said that a DNA sample taken from the girl's body had been sent to the Forensic Sciences Laboratory for identification.
Ganesh Govekar, the doctor who conducted the post-mortem of the body confirmed the presence of "86 injury marks" on the girl's body.
Police have announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for anyone coming forward to give information about the girl.
The body of the girl was found from the bushes near a cricket ground in the Bhestan locality of Surat on April 6. The body of the unidentified girl was found in Surat earlier in April and officials there suspect that the girl, who was possibly held captive, tortured and raped over a period of time, belonged to Odisha.More news: Australia-Shark Attack, AS
