65th National Film Awards: Sridevi wins best actress award for 'Mom'


Sridevi posthumously won the Best Actress Award for her film MOM that also starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Akshaye Khanna and Pakistani actors, Sajal Aly and Adnan Siddiqui in pivotal roles.

Sridevi who had worked in over 300 movies before she passed away on February 24, 2018, was awarded her first national award.

Oscar winning music composer A R Rahman bagged two awards for best music direction in Tamil film "Kaatru Veliyidai" and best background music score for 'Mom'.

Sridevi was one of the most decorated actors of all time with numerous awards and recognitions attached to her name.

Established in 1954, the National Film Awards have been administered by the Indian government's Directorate of Film Festivals, along with the International Film Festival of India and the Indian Panorama. Director Rima Das' coming-of-age Assamese film Village Rockstars was named the best feature film for 2017.

Baahubali won the Best Action Film.

Fahad Fazil won the best supporting actor for the Malayalam film "Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum". Singer KJ Yesudas won the award for Best Playback Singer Male for Poyi Maranjakaalam from Viswasapoorvam Mansoor and Shashaa Tirupati won the award for Best Playback Female for Vaan Varuvaan from Kaatru Veliyidai.

Hebbet Ramakka directed by Nanjunde Gowda won the Best Film in Kannada.

A ten member jury panel headed by Director Shekhar Kapur announced the 65th National Film Awards at the PIB Conference Room.

The jury, headed by filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, had handed over its recommendations to Information and Broadcasting minister Smriti Irani yesterday. It was also recognised as the best film in Jasari langauge.

Pankaj Tripathi, who received a special mention at the National Awards for his role in the "Newton", said it was a moment of celebration for him.
