1st game of Yankees-Tigers doubleheader postponed by rain

This week was the Yankees' only scheduled trip to Detroit, but now the games will have to be made up later this summer.

The Detroit Tigers were scheduled to play the first pitch of their game against the New York Yankees at 1:10 p.m. ET. Fans unable to attend the rescheduled game may exchange their unused tickets at any time for any future similar-or-lesser priced regular season game in the next 12 months, excluding Opening Day next season.

A large storm featuring rain, ice, and snow has pounded the Midwest and Great Lakes regions while severely hampering baseball games all weekend. And the team's sixth game of the season, on April 4 against the Royals, also was postponed.

The games will be made up as a day-night doubleheader on June 4, a scheduled off day for both teams.

The Tigers will stay in rotation through Sunday's split doubleheader. It's now unclear when Liriano will make his next start. All tickets from Saturday's contest that was rained out will be valid on Sunday night, while tickets from Sunday's cancellation can be used on the to-be-determined make-up date.
