Toys 'R' Us is said to miss vendor payments as woes mount

"They said with liquidation they can't do any returns or exchanges", said Mancini.

In January, Toys "R" Us announced that it would close 20 percent of its USA stores, or 180 locations (including multiple stores in Michigan), within months.

The company filed for Chapter 11 protection in September, when it seemed it might be able to reorganize its debt while it renovated stores and operations, but those hopes are fading, according to reports in the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg.

A spokesperson said in January that Toys R Us stores average 25 full-time and part-time employees per store, which means close to 700 jobs could be lost in the area if Toys R Us shuts down the nine stores previously slated for closure and the remaining 19 stores. "Our stores are open for business, ready to bring joy to children wherever we can, and to help new and expecting parents navigate raising a family".

There's no word as of now on what exactly this all means for Babies "R" Us, but seeing as many Toys "R" Us locations also house the baby gear superstore, this could mean that expectant moms may have to look elsewhere when it comes time to create a registry.

The struggles of Toys "R" Us have taken a toll on the two largest toymakers, Hasbro Inc. and Mattel Inc. Both Hasbro and Mattel saw a decline in sales past year, and now the toy companies are losing one of their biggest retailers. And to my discovery, the shelves were stocked with new toys that I have been waiting to get my hands on. In a tweet last week, Toys R' Us said they've seen an fantastic outpouring of love and they are still open for business.
