This "American Idol" contestant's first kiss was with judge Katy Perry

Since singing competition shows are television's most inexhaustible genre, American Idol is back after a blink-and-you-missed-it two years off the air.

Idol was always the best of the singing competition shows and, at least in the U.S., the form's progenitor. But it felt like the same show. He and Katy Perry had a moment after he said "wig", leaving Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie confused. Auditions were done to enable the vocalists to showcase their talents.

Alyssa Raghu is only 15 years old and just wants to make her dad proud in her audition singing "Almost is Never Enough". Catie is the first up.

Perry demonstrated her skill to her fellow judges by protruding her mouth and neck in the manner of a frog. That was a B+ audition. She gets a ticket to Hollywood. The group is rounded out with Marcio Donaldson, Michael J. Woodard, Ron Bultongez, and Trevor McBane. Luke was torn, but declined, until he decided he couldn't let Ron go.

Beyond being the original of its kind, "American Idol" has always been focused most on those staking their lives on fulfilling their dreams of a music career. I remind myself and I'm reminded and I'm inspired by all of their stories. That was another B+ audition. And now, with their golden tickets in hand, both Turner and Lorenzo are headed to Hollywood! That's when Katy Perry beckoned him forward and surprised him with a kiss. Even when he says no to someone, they leave with a smile plastered on their face. You heard it here first.

Maddie, a 19-year-old college student from Clarksville, IA, sang "Rainbow Connection" from The Muppet Movie, and Lionel insisted they need her on the show.

Koby is 26 years old from Denver, Colorado, and is a theater performer. Her original song, "Never Stop", which was, in fact, one sentence, "The devil never stops coming after you", was delivered with such powerful ferocity that it overpowered the panel. "I can not tell you how wonderful it is to see you". "It happened to me", she says, no doubt inspiring millions of smiles.

I have no idea what's happening but Nico Bones, who admits he's hungover is ready to audition with "Worms". She just did a bunch of runs and screaming. Sent packing by the judges, Koby complains bitterly to the camera that "Katy was jealous" of her. And this girl argues. Of course, she gets a ticket.
