Redmi 5 will be an Amazon Exclusive smartphone as the e-commerce player already has a dedicated page for the same. Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus were launched in China a year ago and Redmi 5 Plus has been introduced in India as the Redmi Note 5. Xiaomi is hosting an online launch event at 3pm IST on Wednesday where all the details related to price, specifications, and first sale date of the smartphone will be revealed. The Chinese version of Redmi 5 (3GB RAM/ 32GB storage) is priced at CNY 899 which is about Rs. 9,250 in India and much more powerful version of Redmi 5 (4GB RAM/ 64GB storage) is priced at CNY 1,099 which is about Rs. 11,300.
Buyers can also buy Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro offline through Mi Home stores and Xiaomi partner stores across India. The company recently introduced the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro in the Indian market, and the Redmi 5 is expected to be next. The handset launched in China is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor and sports a 5.7-inch HD+ display with 720x1440p resolution 282ppi pixel density in an 18:9 aspect ratio display.
The Redmi 5 will most likely be positioned in the affordable price segment, below its elder sibling, the Redmi Note 5. It has 32GB/64GB of storage which is expandable through a MicroSD card in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration where second SIM slot doubles as a MicroSD card holder.
In China, Redmi 5 was launched in three variants: 2GB RAM+16GB storage, 3GB RAM+32GB storage and 4GB RAM+32GB storage. There's a 5MP selfie camera on the front which now comes with a "soft light" flash for better low light selfies. On the software front, the Redmi Note 5 runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat out-of-the-box layered with MIUI 9 atop. The phone gets its power from a 3,300 mAh battery.
