Police Seek Man In University Nursing Student's Death

Investigators initially named Anderson's former boyfriend, also a nursing student at SUNY Binghamton, as a person of interest in her murder, although they did not immediately release his identity.

Orlando Tercero, 22, was arrested Tuesday afternoon, four days after the body of Haley Anderson, of Westbury, N.Y., was found by Binghamton police officers conducting a wellness check. Anderson indicated in the report she was in a relationship with Tercero, who eventually paid her for the damage and no further complaints were brought forward. Her death was quickly ruled a homicide, but police have not said how or why she was killed.

Police say Tercero is a United States citizen. Prosecutors on Wednesday said Tercero is a suspect.

Orlando Tercero, 22, was taken into custody in an unspecified place in Nicaragua and was being handed over to judicial authorities in Managua, National Police Commissioner Francisco Diaz told Canal 4 television. "Working with the Binghamton Police Department, we are diligently and thoroughly preparing the case for a Grand Jury to consider". Tercero flew to Nicaragua before police found the victim's body, authorities said.

Tercero is a United States citizen and was also studying nursing. It would be inappropriate at this time to discuss the facts of the case, or go into greater detail.

Police investigating the death of a NY nursing student say they want to question a man who flew to Nicaragua before her body was found. "Haley Anderson's family deserves justice, and I will be pushing all appropriate law enforcement authorities to make this a reality". In the meantime, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover funeral expenses.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Binghamton University's Decker School of Nursing.
