PA ready to permit more medical marijuana

An Arkansas judge on March 21 struck down the state's decision to issue its first licenses to grow medical marijuana, ruling that the process for awarding the permits and the rankings of applicants were unconstitutional. Less than 1% of the state's 68,150 marijuana cultivators had obtained licenses as of last month, according to a recent report by the California Growers Association. Each dispensary may operate up to three separate locations.

Every clinical registrant could provide medical marijuana at up to six locations, or 48 in all. Clinical registrant applications will then be made available May 24, due July 12.

Pennsylvania is the first among the states that have legalized medical marijuana to make medical marijuana research part of the law.

Pennsylvania moved forward on Thursday with a plan to permit medical marijuana research, outlining the process by which medical schools can seek approval for such studies. The state is expected to approve eight registrants, all of whom must have at least $15 million in capital.

State Question 788, which would legalize medical marijuana in Oklahoma is already on the June ballot, but recently we've seen some state lawmakers try to pass bills that would change 788 before it's even voted on.

Under state law, patients can apply for a state-issued medical marijuana card if a doctor certifies they have one of 17 qualified medical conditions, among them epilepsy, cancer, multiple sclerosis and seizure disorders.

Despite lawmakers' wavering, New Hampshire residents have consistently voiced their support for cannabis law reform, with a 2017 University of New Hampshire poll reporting almost 70% of voter support for legalization.
