Mother charged with murder after 2 kids found dead in vehicle

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office said 20-year-old Brittany Velasquez was arrested and charged with murder after evidence indicated there was foul play. Twice, the police visits led to reports of potential child neglect or abuse involving the toddler and infant.

A 20-year-old mother from Arizona is facing murder charges after authorities discovered both of her young children dead inside a vehicle, police said.

An investigation is still underway by the sheriff's office.

Detectives found the bodies of Brittany Velasquez's 2-year-old son and 10-month-old daughter Monday night, KSAZ reported.

Pinal County Sheriff's Office said they would not be releasing the names of the children and added that an autopsy is being conducted.

An online jail roster put Velasquez's age at 21, differing from the sheriff's statement.

It's not immediately known whether Velasquez has an attorney who could comment on the allegations. The children were still strapped in their seats.

No other information was available at press time. The father of one of her children died last summer from a meth overdose.
