Missing man, teen may be traveling together

A 16-year-old Pennsylvania girl has disappeared with a 45-year-old man with whom she is allegedly in a "secretive relationship", authorities said.

Allentown police issued a missing person alert Wednesday for Kevin Esterly and Amy Yu.

Amy's mother called police on February 9 to report Esterly signed her daughter out of Lehigh Valley Academy that day without permission, according to the newspaper. Esterly, a married man, has no permanent address but according to The Morning Call, owns property with his wife in Lowhill Township. However, investigators checked the Bethlehem charter school's records and found Esterly signed Amy out of school 10 times between November 13 and February 9 without her parents' permission.

Police said Amy's mother called February 9 to report Esterly had signed her child out of Lehigh Valley Academy earlier that day.

When they arrived, they told Esterly and his wife Stacey to stay away from the girl.

Luu said she had discovered text messages between Esterly and her daughter on Amy's phone, and it sounded like they were in a romantic relationship. The shocked woman told them she's a single mother.

Esterly and Yu were last seen near her home in Allentown and are likely in Esterly's 1999 red Honda Accord. CEO of the school, Susan Mauser, told the Morning Call that students could only be picked up by people on an emergency contact list provided by parents, but did not say whether Esterly was on Yu's list. According to police, Amy altered her school records and put Esterly down as her stepfather, allowing him to sign her out of school.

According to Inside Edition, Esterly's wife "told police she last saw her husband at 6:05 a.m. Monday" on March 5.

John said that after his mother dropped him and Amy off at the bus stop on Monday, Amy took off and he didn't know where she was going.

"We just really hope she returns to her family soon", she said.

Before fleeing, Esterly withdrew $4,000 from his bank accounts, his wife Stacey told police.

Esterly is described as a white male who stands 5 feet 9 inches and weighs 185 pounds.

Amy's mother discovered after her daughter vanished that she had taken some of jewelry, her passport and cash.

The police added that Amy Yu "is described as being an Asian Female, 4-11 in height and weighing approximately 90 lbs".
