Mario comes to Google Maps to celebrate Super Mario Day


With Mario being one of the most favourite cartoon characters among people, Google churned out a unique way to inject him back into our lives. In 1993, a movie was also made on the Mario Bros.

To celebrate Mario Day (Mar 10), you can now have the famous plumber as your navigator in Google Maps for a week. Instead of the boring arrow, you will now see Mario in his red kart but that is not all.

Enter a location you want to go.

Munish Dabas, UX Engineer, Google Maps stated in the company's official blog, "We know a true Mario fan when we see one".

To use this new feature, users have to first update the Google Maps app to its latest version from the App Store.

In simple terms, "Mario Mode" changes Google Maps' blue navigation arrow to a go-kart from the "Mario Kart" games.

In conjunction with Mario Day which is on the 10th of March, Nintendo and Google made a decision to allow Mario to replace the standard icon in Google Maps. He'll be a constant companion wherever you're driving this week- to work, to school, or the curry house.

The Japanese game company is now working on "Mario Kart Tour", the first time the series will appear on smartphones.
