Barcelona secures option to sign Brazilian midfielder Arthur from Brazilian club Gremio


"Should the club finally take up the option signed, the transfer fee is fixed at €30m plus a further €9m in bonuses".

FC Barcelona issued an official statement after midday on Sunday to announce that they have reached an agreement with Grêmio de Porto Alegre to reserve an option to buy Brazilian midfielder Arthur Henrique Ramos de Oliveira Melo.

The club's technical director Robert Fernandez travelled to Brazil a few weeks ago to finalize the transfer of the 21-year-old who is expected to arrive in Cataluña at the season.

Arthur is a Brazil Under-20 global and has played 51 times for Gremio since breaking into the senior team in 2016. Little by little he become a vital figure in the team that won the Copa Libertadores in 2017 in which he was named man of the match in the second leg of the final against Argentine side Lanus.

The midfielder, who has been lauded for his fluid passing ability, has featured for his national side at U17 and U20 level but has yet to make his first-team debut alongside Barcelona compatriots Paulinho and Philippe Coutinho.

Arthur has always been linked with both Chelsea and Barcelona, with both sides preparing to meet in the second leg of the Champions League clash next week.
