Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: 'Europa League is very strong this season'

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette remains on course to return from injury following the global break, Arsene Wenger has said.

"We're always playing for the fans, it doesn't matter if they could have come today or not", Mkhitaryan told beIN Sports.

Aaron Ramsey has admitted the Europa League is now Arsenal's best chance of qualifying for next season's Champions League, putting added emphasis on Thursday's round-of-16 second leg against AC Milan.

But Wenger has revealed Lacazette took part in an individual training session on Wednesday and is expected to return shortly after the global break.

"I want to be in the Champions League".

Such has been the reordering of things in recent years by Uefa, however, that an English team missing out might not actually be too badly out of pocket if they actually win the Europa League. You look who is in there and there is Milan, Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, all the French teams - some good French teams.

"Anything can run against you and we just have to produce a performance that is expected from us".

"We can't take our foot off the gas, we need to treat it as if it's 0-0, that's the right mentality to have".

Back at Arsenal, he was not in the team at the start of the season but he has forced his way back into Wenger's thinking during another disappointing campaign. "This game is very important for us and our season". But sometimes, when you have a negative spiral, it is hard to get out.

Arsene Wenger side doubled their lead in the 59th minutes as Henrikh Mkhitaryan played a lovely pass into the box and finding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who tried his luck from close range and coolly striked the ball into the back of the net to make the scoreline 2 - 0.

Wilshere's contract is set to expire at the end of the season and his representatives have been locked in talks with the Gunners over a new deal.

'I hope he's in the squad, ' said Wenger.
