Trump Jr's foreign policy speech in India boosts concerns

The newspaper ads promise that buyers who order apartments in the development by Thursday will get "a conversation and dinner" with Trump Jr. a day later.

"I love the Indian media".

The initial title and the visit, in general, drew backlash from some politicians and ethics watchdogs, because they suspect that Trump Jr. would mix his father's politics with business during the weeklong visit.

The President's son was originally slated to speak on "Reshaping Indo-Pacific ties: The new era of cooperation", and this led to criticism that a foreign policy speech during a business visit was unethical.

With summer already approaching, it is far too warm for cosy fires in New Delhi.

"Mumbai has emerged as one of the most preferable destinations for luxury real estate and we are honoured to have a place within the city", said Trump Jr., who is Executive Vice President, Trump Organisation, as he recalled his association with the project from inception.

The Global Business Summit will be hosted by the Economic times where Donald Trump set to give a speech with Prime Minister Modi and other senior government officials.

Donald Trump Jr. gives a thumbs up as he arrives for a meeting in New Delhi, India, Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018.

Menendez is a ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, in his letter, voiced his concerns that Mr. Trump's speech might send mixed or wrong message, that he speaks on behalf of his father the President or the United States, government or the administration, but not as a private individual or is he communicating the official American policy.

The Trump Organization has also pledged not to sign new deals during Trump's presidency.

"Donald Trump a private individual and neither the State Department nor the White House has provided any support for this trip beyond coordinating with his Secret Service protection", Walters said.

Trump Jr.'s visit so far has been very different from his sister Ivanka Trump's high-visibility visit to India in November, when she led the USA contingent at a global business conference.

During the course of Donald Trump's presidential elections, the reins of the real estate empire were slowly transferred into the hands of his sons, Donald Jr and Eric so as to avoid a conflict of interest in the case of Trump becoming President. All the projects, which are being built by Indian developers, bear the Trump name from licensing agreements. The organization has five projects in India, making it the brand's largest market outside the United States. But the trip raised questions of conflict of interest, since access to the president's eldest child was also on offer: recent full-page ads in Indian newspapers announced that "Trump is here". A luxury complex is already open in the central city of Pune while the others are in varying stages of construction in Mumbai and Kolkata and two in the New Delhi suburb of Gurgaon.

"Obviously, the business responsibility is a great one and even though I'm not in the administration, politics becomes a part of it because I believe in what my father's doing, and he is certainly up against a lot of adversity", Trump Jr. said in an interview with TV18.
