Alameda County Sheriff was able to locate the suspects Cuesta had used her last breath to identify.

Cuesta had "brutal" stab wounds on her body when she was airlifted to the hospital, where she later died.

Cuesta was taken by helicopter to Eden Hospital in Castro Valley, where she gave investigators what's known as a "dying declaration".

He said Cuesta had willingly got in a auto with Gross and Leonardo before she was beaten and stabbed multiple times.

The teen was found on the Livermore roadside by two passers-by, who rushed to call emergency services. The group pulled over to help her, covered Cuesta in a blanket, and prayed with her in order to keep her awake and talking until officials arrived to the scene.

The victim had been stabbed several times and beaten, but she still managed to crawl 100 yards back to the road. But neighbor Jamie Marie Smith says she still feels uneasy. "It's what happened from the moment she got into the auto that we're focusing on".

"I hope it'll be encouraging to their family that their daughter did have the spirit to fight", he said. Ray Kelly, public information officer for the Sheriff's Office, told The Bee.

The three of them knew each other and were friends; Cuesta got into the auto on her own consent, Kelly said.

Kelly said a motorist spotted the female victim on the ground in that area and the CHP and Alameda County fire officials responded. "She fought like a soldier". Leonardo has three children - two girls and a boy - Fenisey said, and "the guy she was with at the time when I worked with her was the father of all three kids, but they always were having problems, and then she moved to the Tracy Carl's Jr".

Cuesta willingly got in the vehicle of Daniel Gross, 19, and his girlfriend, Melissa Leonardo, 25, both of Modesto, before she was beaten and stabbed, Kelly said.

"It's a bittersweet moment for us in the fact that we do have the people responsible", Kelly said.

As they grew older, they realized they were better as just friends, she said.

Gallion told The Bee, "She is the one, I know she is". And she didn't let them get away with it.

She told The Bee she never saw any sign of a temper in her friend. "I love her", he continued.
