Belichick and Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau have been friends since Thibodeau was an assistant with the Celtics from 2007-10.
"I watch every game", Thibodeau, a product of New Britain, Connecticut, said of the Patriots after his team's 108-89 win, according to ESPN.
"I grew up as a kid thinking that the Patriots never win the Super Bowl - we could get there, but we don't win. I think we were fortunate that there were no volcanic eruptions or earthquakes, or anything else while we were there, when you have two National Football League franchises in the area where you do not know how stable the geological plates are under us, but nothing happened, so that was good".More news: Milo Ventimiglia's "This Is Us" Crock-Pot Super Bowl Ad Is Perfection

There was no way Bill Belichick had already forgotten the Patriots had hoisted their second Lombardi Trophy in three years when New England opened minicamp in April.
"With certainty, I did not intend it to be a negative thing", Belichick said Thursday. He's certainly a lot closer in age to the players than I am, so from that perspective, players' needs and where they're at. "He's an awesome guy and an fantastic coach". He played for the Patriots from 2004-2014 before signing a two year deal with the Houston Texans in 2015. That's a good way to grow up.
In 2012, Belichick had invited Thibodeau - who at the time was head coach of the Chicago Bulls - to Patriots spring practices. "And no one in that area should ever take it for granted". "Tom's done a great job".
