The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports that a 25-years old trader was shot at in NOIDA by Sub-Inspector (SI) on Saturday night, telling his colleague that the encounter would earn him an out of turn promotion.

In the encounter, Station House Officer, Khorabar, Sudhir Kumar, and sub-inspector, Jhangha, Sunil Kumar Singh, suffered minor injuries, they said.

The SSP said the sub-inspector who had opened fire had been suspended and was in custody.

Hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Uttar Pradesh government, the Samajwadi Party on Sunday alleged that the two youths injured in police firing are victims of "fake-encounter".

On Saturday, two people were allegedly shot at by a police personnel in Uttar Pradesh's Noida Sector-122.

Yadav is said to be a gym trainer and is undergoing treatment at Fortis Hospital in critical condition.

Both the leaders also met the family members of the injured and demanded strict action against the officers responsible for shooting Yadav.

"Prima facie it looks like a case of personal enmity". This is certainly not a case of an encounter.

Among the injured, Jitendra Yadav, who was shot in the neck, is said to be critical, while Sunil has wounded his leg. Yadav is now admitted at Fortis, where heavy security is deployed at present. The police force is to protect the people, these kind of incidents would send a wrong message to the society.

Narrating the sequence of the event, Yadav's friend and an eye-witness in the case said, "We aren't criminals, why should we have gone to the police chowki?" The family said that Mr Yadav and three others were returning from Bahrampur around 10.30 pm when the police stopped their vehicle and opened fire.
