The deceased identified as Shuhaib (30) of Edayannur who was the Mattannur block secretary was attacked on Monday night, around 11.30 pm.
The CPI (M), however, has denied any role in the incident.
A video has now developed of provocative trademarks and demise dangers being issued amid a CPM rally two weeks back in Edayannur in Kannur region. "They will have to pay dearly for hampering the peaceful atmosphere when even they are in power", said district congress committee president Satheesan Pacheni.
This was the 21st political murder that has taken place in Kannur after Pinarayi Vijayan assumed office in 2016. The police suspect it could be related to the incidents of violence in the area last week.
Congress alleged that the CPM is behind the murder of the YC leader.
