Congress calls 12-hour Kannur bandh today protesting youth leader's murder

The incident occurred on Monday night when four assailants came in a auto and hurled crude bombs and attacked SP Shuhaib and two other party members with machetes, they said.

A 29 -year-old Youth Congress worker was hacked to death and two others were injured in an attack by a four-member gang in Kerala's Kannur district.

Shuhaib suffered critical stab wounds and succumbed to injuries early on Tuesday. Brutally injured Shuhaib was rushed to medical college but died on the way. The harmed, Noushad (26) and Riyas (36) were admitted to the Indira Gandhi Co-agent Hospital in Thalassery.

Meanwhile, the Congress has announced a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the district today against yesterday's attack.

The men arrived in a van, began to throw crude bombs at the group and then attacked Shuhaib, the police said.

The deceased identified as Shuhaib (30) of Edayannur who was the Mattannur block secretary was attacked on Monday night, around 11.30 pm.

The CPI (M), however, has denied any role in the incident.

A video has now developed of provocative trademarks and demise dangers being issued amid a CPM rally two weeks back in Edayannur in Kannur region. "They will have to pay dearly for hampering the peaceful atmosphere when even they are in power", said district congress committee president Satheesan Pacheni.

This was the 21st political murder that has taken place in Kannur after Pinarayi Vijayan assumed office in 2016. The police suspect it could be related to the incidents of violence in the area last week.

Congress alleged that the CPM is behind the murder of the YC leader.
