Brockton officials say 2 children were killed in a stabbing

Police say they have arrested a woman for stabbing two of her children to death in their MA home in what prosecutors are calling "a gruesome, disturbing and heartbreaking crime", CBS Boston reports.

A neighbor called 911 earflier today alerting authorities of a "medical emergency", Cruz said. "This was a gruesome and disturbing and most of all, a heartbreaking crime".

Cruz said the brothers, aged 5 and 8, could have been dead as long at two days in the Prospect Street apartment where they were believed to have lived with their mother.

Police said the 43-year-old acted alone when she stabbed the five-year-old and eight-year-old boys multiple times.

The Enterprise newspaper reports that the mayor's office contacted members of the Brockton City Council Monday confirming the stabbing deaths of two children in the city.

According to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz, the murders occurred within the last 48 hours of them arriving at the scene. Sanders is expected to be arraigned Tuesday at Brockton District Court.

"I don't understand how anyone would ever do that to children", one neighbor said. "Why would you stab two kids?" a tearful Cassandre Lorvainis told 7News.

An animal control officer was later seen removing a single cat from the third floor apartment.
