UCF fans fund billboard challenging Alabama to a battle of national champions


2, the Prince George Journal sent out a press release declaring the University of Central Florida Knights national champions of college football by virtue of their 34-27 Peach Bowl victory over Auburn on January 1.

The electronic billboard spot features an image from the Knights' Peach Bowl win over Auburn and text that reads "Congratulations Alabama!".

"Florida is home to the country's best college football, and this season, UCF proved to the world that they can beat any team".

But after watching Alabama beat Georgia in overtime on Monday, it's clear the Crimson Tide would have a significant talent advantage. It was enough for UCF's athletic director, too: Danny White confirmed that the school was paying the team's assistant coaches bonuses for winning the title. By having a flawless season and beating the only team that defeated both Alabama and Georgia this season, the UCF Knights are clearly champions.

The Knights finished the 2017 season as the nation's only undefeated team while proclaiming themselves as national champions.

University of Central Florida football fans bought a billboard advertisement in Tuscaloosa congratulating the University of Alabama on its national championship victory. For now, though, Alabama is the sport's official recognized national champion.

Some on social media made fun of the sign, but UCF is actually 1-0 against the Crimson Tide, having beaten them 40-38 in Tuscaloosa in 2000.
