Senior Bowl: sightings of Dan Marino and cash registers ringing

On Wednesday, Allen and 2017 Heisman Trophy victor Baker Mayfield, who Kiper has ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the class, partook in an accuracy drill and let's just say one was much better than the other. The South Team is being coached by the Denver Broncos' coaching staff. The playbook was emailed to Mayfield so he could study it before arriving.

But while the 6-foot-5, 237-pounder admitted he had some "easy misses", he also said that was to be expected a bit while all the quarterbacks and receivers were getting adjusted to one another and the playbook at the same time. It's brought me some of my best friends and brought my family closer together, realizing that you got to keep your inner circle tight.

"I think we're still in the process", Elway said. Under different circumstances, he would be all in and anxious to showcase what he can do by actively participating in the Senior Bowl, and not just because he wants to improve his NFL draft stock but because he truly loves the game of football. Emotional player, I'll do what it takes to win, love being around my teammates, love leading and having responsibility.

"I take a lot of pride in it", Joseph said.

Samuels was a do-everything, H-back for the Wolfpack, but do National Football League teams view him as a running back or a tight end?

"There's a lot to be said about throwing the ball, the measurables", Mayfield said. "I came down here to play the game and show them that I love playing it".

In many mock drafts, Mayfield still trails USC's Sam Darnold, UCLA's Josh Rosen and even Wyoming's Josh Allen.

"The guy that does that is going to be immortalized in Cleveland forever", Allen said.

It wasn't until late in his junior year that his college coaches began discussing with Davenport the possibility that he could play in the NFL. His nasty blocking style was turning heads in Mobile, where the Senior Bowl will be played Saturday (2:30 p.m. ET, NFL Network) and his splendid week continued Thursday. Washington won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top wideout this past season, but he will have to show that's he more than just a product of the Cowboys' high-powered, pass-oriented offense that wreaked havoc in a conference (Big 12) not exactly known for defense. He completed 70.5 percent of his passes for 4,627 yards with 43 touchdowns and six interceptions last season. By many accounts, Mayfield was the better of the duo on Tuesday, but I'm interested to see how well he does on the final practice of the week - in which it's likely to be the last day to make a big impression here in Mobile.

"Well, I would think we would probably not do that, " he said. "Just learning the system, getting to where I'm comfortable back there where I can just be myself".

"My main thing is show that I'm not a backup back", Williams told detroitlions.com.

He assures coaches and scouts that he didn't end up at his hometown team in San Antonio, Texas, because of problems with his grades or off-the-field issues.

"You kind of try to not treat it as a distraction", Allen said.

"We'll see", he said tersely.

Likewise, the Broncos requested that Mayfield be on the North team. "If John Elway asks you to be on his team, you dont say no".
