Sam's Club to shutter San Antonio location amid wave of national closures

Sam's Club temporarily closed the store Thursday and notified employees at the San Pedro store of the impending closure, Hatfield said.

Several stores were closed today and some workers were not even told ahead of time and found out that their store would be shuttered when they showed up for work to find the store's doors locked and a notice announcing the closure, according to reports.

Dozens of Sam's Club locations are closing, but none on the list are in the Tri-State.

Sam's Club's statement on Twitter said,"After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, we've chose to close a series of clubs and better align our locations with our strategy".

"We know this is hard news for our associates, and we are working to place as many of them as possible at nearby locations", said Sam's Club President and CEO John Furner.

The closures come the same day Walmart Stores Inc.

It's not clear how many employees work at the San Pedro location but Sam's Club stores typically have about 150 employees, Hatfield said.

There are two Sam's Club stores in Montana - one in Billings and the other in Great Falls. The move could impact as many as 11,000 employees.

A spokesman said the employees being laid off will receive that bonus.
