Reject Trump's racist language and work for new immigration policies

"I'm not a racist", Trump told reporters, channeling Richard Nixon from the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. (Trump was reportedly meeting with lawmakers about a deal on immigration and the Deferred Action for Child Arrivals program - DACA - when he said that.) Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), who attended the meeting, has publicly confirmed Trump's "shithole" remarks, saying that the president did indeed say "these hate-filled things and he said them repeatedly". "That, I can tell you", he said.

"(H) e said 'My family was from one of those s-hole countries.' He used the word himself", Durbin said.

Even so, his most ardent supporters have stuck to him despite the disparaging remarks, which were supposedly made about Haiti and other African countries during a heated Oval Office meeting about DACA and immigration.

While meeting with lawmakers about a potential immigration deal, Mr. Trump questioned why the US accepts immigrants from what he called "sh*thole countries", according to Sen. We see no reason for Durbin to lie with so many witnesses at hand.

Two Republican senators who had earlier said they did not recall Trump using the vulgarity to describe African countries backtracked on Sunday and challenged other senators' descriptions of the remark.

Trump has also said comments attributed to him weren't made.

"Senator Dicky Durbin totally misrepresented what was said at the DACA meeting, "Trump tweeted". But she said she doesn't "dispute the president was using tough language".

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, also present during last week's meeting, offered an explanation for the President's comments.

Senator Lindsey Graham, another Republican participant, told fellow South Carolina Senator Tim Scott the media reports of the comments were "basically accurate", according to The Post and Courier. Finally, she announced that "I have nothing further to say on a meeting that happened over a week ago".

"He's very stable, very focused, very organized", Ivana Trump said, when asked about Michael Wolff's controversial book Fire and Fury, which documented a White House in perpetual turmoil.

Eric Trump, and it's an ongoing competition between him and Donald, Junior.

During an oversight hearing Tuesday, Nielsen testified that she did not hear that specific word come from the President during the meeting.

Expecting Trump to be truthful is a lost cause, but what of others in his orbit?

The president has said any deal must include funding for the wall as well as changes to make the immigration system a more merit-based structure. "I am stunned that this is their defense", Durbin said.

Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) says he ― and not Sen. Lindsey Graham of SC were mistaken in indicating that was the case.

But emotions are running so high-against Trump, against Democratic leaders, about immigration itself-that the good will needed to do such deals seems to be evaporating.

Ahead of the dinner with McCarthy, Trump said he did not have any assurances as to whether Congress would avert a government shutdown.

Several people who were at the meeting last week or familiar with the discussions, said Trump disparaged those countries in vulgar, racially tinged terms.

"DACA is probably dead because the Democrats don't really want it, they just want to talk and take desperately needed money away from our military", Mr Trump said on Twitter.
