Patriot's Rex Burkhead (knee) officially inactive against Titans

Both Burkhead and Gillislee are out with knee injuries.

Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee will not play against the Tennessee Titans in the AFC divisional round game.

The good news for the Patriots is that according to Schefter, last year's Super Bowl hero James White is expected to return from an ankle injury and play versus Tennessee. Without his dual-threat ability as a rusher and pass-catcher, the Patriots' offense sputtered at times in December.

Gillislee, who has rushed for 383 yards and five touchdowns, also was a limited participant in practice Thursday. Branch played in 12 games this season, including six starts, after being a regular starter the previous two seasons. The Patriots will be without running backs Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee when they host the Titans in the divisional round.

In 10 games, Burkhead's averaged 11.5 FanDuel points on 9.4 touches per game this season. White also missed the final two games. The 27-year-old, who practiced in limited fashion Thursday, has rushed for 264 yards and five touchdowns this season. The Titans possess a stout run defense but struggle more than any other team at covering running backs in the passing game.
