Meryl Streep's cheeky response to Mariah Carey's seat stealing moment

Earlier, Carey had apologised on Twitter, writing: "Got caught mingling on the way to the loo during a commercial break".

During the ceremony, Meryl shared a table with her co-stars from the upcoming film "The Post", and was seated next to its director, Steven Spielberg. Which is already awesome, but was made even more so by the fact that Meryl came back from wherever she was (polishing her Oscars, IDK) and found Mariah occupying her turf.

Appearing on Monday's edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Oscar-winning actress speculated on the growing possibility of Oprah Winfrey becoming president, amid reports that she is "actively thinking" about a run.

"B***h stole my seat", Streep joked.

Streep said she returned from a break to find Carey sitting in her spot and "sucking up" to Spielberg.

"Mariah added, "(me) Dear Meryl, please forgive me! According to Carey, Streep told her: "You can take my seat any time!" "They do the '5, 4, 3, 2, 1...' and wherever you are, everybody has to drop to their seats". Leave it to Streep, however, to craft a creative solution so both she and Mariah could sit.

Jimmy Kimmel: "I saw something that said Mariah Carey stole your seat".

Meryl did offer to let her keep the seat, even suggesting she sit on Mimi's lap because, as she put it, "it looked comfy".
