Twitch and Blizzard will be creating "innovative rewards" for fans, although the press release only mentions that the league's "most steadfast viewers" will be rewarded with in-game items, with further details available as items appear.
The first Overwatch League match kicks off today at 4pm PST, which you can watch below.
Activision's MLG.TV will also show half of the standard season matches. The first match will be between San Francisco Shock and Los Angeles Valiant. The Atlantic Division teams take the stage at the Blizzard Arena Los Angeles on Thursday. Whether it will be successful or not has yet to be seen, but Blizzard believes it will be a huge leap forward for the world of esports competition - and Twitch seems to have faith in them as well. "January 10th is an historic day for esports and we are so grateful to our team owners, our media partners, our sponsors, and most of all our players for their pivotal role in the establishment of the Overwatch League".More news: Manchester United Confirm How They'll Combat £89 Sevilla Champions League Tickets

The twelve teams competing in the Overwatch League's first season are Boston Uprising, Dallas Fuel, Florida Mayhem, Houston Outlaws, London Spitfires, Los Angeles Gladiators, Los Angeles Valiant, New York Excelsior, Philadelphia Fusion, San Francisco Shock, Seoul Dynasty and Shanghai Dragons.
The annual value of the deal just edges out that of the seven-year, $300 million (£221m) contract that League of Legends' Riot Games signed with BAMTech in 2016. Now it is also part of the base game and has a dedicated tab in the game menu. Fans can purchase tickets to attend matches, which will be played each Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Kevin Lin, chief operating officer of Twitch, said: "The Overwatch League is making a major impact on e-sports by reshaping the industry with city-based teams".
