Franco won the award at the end of an hourlong pre-telecast before the live show began.

Later, Prince was spotted speaking with fellow nominee Jacob Tremblay, 11, who gave her a congratulatory hug.

Kristin Scott Thomas plays opposite the 59-year-old as his on-screen wife Clemmie Churchill in the film.The movie itself was also up for Best Picture and Best Score as well.

Despite facing multiple allegations of sexual misconduct James Franco won the Critics' Choice Award for Best Actor in a Comedy on Thursday night-only he wasn't there to accept it. The series, which tackled mysterious murder and domestic violence, also earned Alexander Skarsgard and Laura Dern best supporting actor and actress in limited series respectively.
