Haryana: Class 12 student shoots principal in Yamunanagar school


Yamunanagar: The principal of one of the leading schools in Haryana's Yamunanagar was on Saturday shot dead by a Class 12 student in the school, police said.

He was rusticated from the school about 14 days ago for poor attendance and for picking up fights, an official said. "The accused student fired four shots at Swami Vivekanand School principal Ritu Chhabra, who was in her office, with a.32 bore gun and critically injured her", the police said. After hearing the noise of fire, the staff as well as those present rushed to the room and took the principal to the private hospital where she succumbed to injuries in the afternoon. "The father of the accused, who is a financier from Yamunanagar's neighbouring village, has also been booked under the Arms Act", said the spokesperson.

A school employee told the police the boy said he wanted to meet Chhabra.

"Three bullets hit the principal".

Police officials investigating the case were quoted by IANS as saying that the assailant had come to the school along with a friend on a motorcycle and headed straight for the Principal's office.

Some of the parents overpowered the boy, who apparently made no attempt to flee. According to reports, the deceased was identified as the Principal of Vivekananda School in Yamuna Nagar district in Haryana. "They held the boy till the police arrived", a police officer said. Police said that Viresh chose to attack Chhabra as she had reprimanded him a number of times in the classroom as well as outside.
