The two first reached summit level interactions 15 years ago, and five years ago they formed a strategic partnership. The summit also agreed to deepen cooperation in combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, violent extremism and radicalisation through information sharing, law enforcement cooperation and capacity building under the existing ASEAN-led mechanisms.
Modi also called for respect for global law, especially the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (Unclos), while stating that the Asean is at the centre of New Delhi's Act East Policy.

As Asean chair, Singapore will facilitate the deal "as an honest-broker coordinator", he added.
