Crossover gets hot-hatch thinking, more tech — Ford Edge ST

The Edge ST follows the Fiesta and Focus into ST territory, albeit with a powertrain that wears a "Sport" badge on other models.

Yes, it's the first Ford SUV ever to sport the ST badge and thus the brand's first SUV to be tuned by the Ford Performance team.

The features for the auto have been explained elaborately and for power, the Edge ST has a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 with 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque.

Ford Motor Co said on Thursday it will make automatic emergency brakes standard on two key 2019 models, an effort by the No. 2 United States automaker to catch up with rivals in offering the new technology created to help vehicles avoid collisions. "From a performance standpoint, and with its SUV silhouette and versatility, it sets a new standard Edge fans will love to drive". The Edge ST also has dual-exhaust outlets and available unique 21-inch wheels.

The 2019 model comes standard with forward-collision warning, dynamic-brake support, pre-collision assist, pedestrian detection, blind-spot detection, cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping alert and assist, automatic high beams and hill-start assist.

The 2019 Edge and Edge ST will arrive in dealerships this summer. Not anymore, though, as now there's a 2019 Edge ST in town.

SYNC with AppLink™, an enhanced voice-recognition communications and entertainment system, is also standard.

Tweaks across the model line mean every Edge gets a wider grille flanked by full LED headlights and topped by a wider, redesigned hood. You've got a new 8-speed automatic sending power to the AWD.

The 2019 Edge in the United States remains about the same mechanically in its base form, using the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which has received an additional 5 hp for a total of 250 horsepower (186 kilowatts).

Inside, the facelifted 2019 Edge features a redesigned center console featuring a new rotary gearshift dial.

Many buyers of the SUV are professionals who say they want to project a positive image while having access to a wide range of options that may now include WiFi hotspots, internet access for up to 10 devices, and the ability to use a smartphone to lock, unlock, remotely start and locate the Edge. Four new body colors and an equal number of new wheel choices ensure that customers can differentiate their Edges from the rest easily, all the while standard LED headlamps as well as LED taillights and optional LED fog lights add a touch of newness and ensure that there's no confusing this with a vehicle from yesteryear at night.
