Conor McGregor In Danger Of Losing UFC Title

Conor McGregor once held two UFC title belts over his head, but he might not have any strapped around his waist if his continued dormancy from the octagon lingers.

UFC president Dana White broke down his reaction to last night's (Sun., January 14, 2017) UFC Fight Night 124 from St. Louis during the post-fight show on FOX Sports 1, but the discussion not surprisingly shifted to the messy lightweight title landscape as champion Conor McGregor sits on the bench with no return in view.

Over the past couple of weeks, Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather have started taking shots at each other over social media leading to speculation that the former opponents are angling towards a potential rematch in 2018.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson will fight for the title in McGregor's absence - but McGregor would get "first crack" at his old belt "if and when" he does return to the sport. "Love Conor, respect Conor, love everything that he's done for this company". The belt would have to move on, absolutely...

As the number two-ranked fighter in the lightweight division, Nurmagomedov appears to have only two fight options ahead of him: interim champion Tony Ferguson, and McGregor, who hasn't defended his belt since winning at UFC 205, where he beat Eddie Alvarez by way of technical knockout.

CONOR MCGREGOR could be stripped of his UFC lightweight title if he does not return to action.

Still, UFC president Dana White says that for all the bluster coming from McGregor and Mayweather recently, he has no desire to go through another boxing match between the two of them.

Given that White has previously spoken of McGregor's interest in fighting Nurmagomedov in Russian Federation, the latter report is an especially interesting one. Everybody knows that. I say it all the time. "We're working on that fight now".

'You do Khabib vs. Many (fighters) will want to perform both in the UFC and at home at the same time. "We will fight in April first with Tony Ferguson, and then we will receive a date for a fight with McGregor", said Nurmagomedov senior, speaking by phone.
