Boat carrying 40 school children capsizes in western India


A boat carrying schoolchildren capsized in the Arabian Sea off Dahanu in Palghar district of Maharashtra, a senior official said on Saturday.

2 ISVs deployed for patrolling in the area have been diverted for search and rescue along with 3 Coast Guard units already present in the area. Local fishermen and agencies have rescued 32 children. Dahanu is over 100 kilometres from the city. This incident occurred off the coast of Dahanu near Parnaka beach.

As many as 40 school children were on board the boat.

Help has also been sought from Indian Coast Guard to assist in the rescue operations, he said. The search for remaining missing students is ongoing.

So far, 25 children have rescued, reports said.
